cheap nfl San Diego Chargers jerseys here fire Norv Turner

When the San Diego Chargers decided to fire Norv Turner, the concern is whether their next head coach will appease quarterback Philip Rivers. Now that Mike McCoy is their new coach, it should make Rivers very happy.

Looking at McCoy's work in four years as the Denver Broncos' offensive coordinator and the fact it went to another level with Peyton Manning as his starting quarterback, it was evident McCoy would be elevated to a first-time head coach for some team in 2013.

The Chargers are that fortunate team, with the added bonus of stealing someone from the staff of the reigning AFC West champions. McCoy interviewed with Arizona, Chicago and Philadelphia, but it's hard to ignore the fact that San Diego offered the most settled quarterback situation and best offensive opportunity.

During his introductory press conference on Tuesday, it didn't take long for McCoy to gush about the quarterback he's inherited.

"It's a great opportunity," McCoy said of the chance to work with Rivers. "He's a great guy to have as the face of your franchise. Game in and game out, regardless of the score, he's going to compete. That's where it's all going to start."

Rivers and Turner built a strong bond, not only as coach and team leader, but as play-caller and play-maker. Given how McCoy connected with both the passing-challenged Tim Tebow and legendary Manning, the Chargers have reason to think he'll do the same with Rivers.

Rivers needs the help as the four-time Pro Bowl selection saw a significant dip in production and efficiency the last two seasons under Turner. His passer rating was consistently so-so at 88.7 and 88.6 after that number was well above 100.0 in the three previous years.

When McCoy starts to do his homework on Rivers' struggles, he'll see the quarterback's supporting cast played the biggest part in it.
